Inspirational Digital Artwork

February 19th, 2009

There’s a great site called Deviant Art where a million artists hang out and show their creations.  It’s also a place where I’ve posted some of my fractals and 3d artwork, but more importantly, it’s the place where I’m constantly BLOWN AWAY at the talent of some amazing artists!

For anyone who doubts that digital art is ART just because there’s no “real” paint and canvas involved, please keep an open mind!

Here’s just a small sampling of some of my current favorites in the category of Digital Painting / Airbrushing:

AURORY (click to see his full gallery)

This artist paints from scratch using a tablet and computer.  At first glance, you may think these gorgeous works of art come from photographs or are overpainted using photos, but they aren’t!  I’m in awe of the skill it takes to create such amazing realism!  This artist has several basic “walkthroughs” or mini-tutorials of how he paints, so you can see the steps. He does have prints of his artwork for sale at Deviant Art (just find a painting that you like in his gallery and right under the picture there will be a link that says “buy this print” and will take you to his shop).

Dianae (click to see her full gallery)

Another amazing artist who paints from scratch using a tablet and computer.   Again, I’m in awe of the stunning detail, color, and feeling that are put into each painting.  Oh, to have this kind of talent!   This artist also has several tutorials of how she paints,  so you can see the steps. She also has prints of her artwork for sale at Deviant Art (just find a painting that you like in her gallery and right under the picture there will be a link that says “buy this print” and will take you to her shop).

I have many, many more favorites and will showcase two of them each week from now on! Hope you enjoy these gorgeous artworks! Stop by their deviant art galleries to say hello or find a print to buy - it’s a great way to support really wonderful digital artists like these.

Mini Photoshop Tutorial - adding a semi-transparent shape behind text

February 5th, 2009

Today on etsy there was a woman asking for some Photoshop help with her banner and how to use Photoshop layers (topic here), so I thought I’d post this basic tutorial.  I’m using Photoshop CS2, so if you’re using a different version, the tools/buttons may look different or be in a different location.

Finally I was able to add a WordPress blog to my site - and I even managed to figure out how to make it match my own site!  YAY!
